Ilona Mejia graduated with honours from Aberdeen University, and has since been awarded a Diploma in Music from the Open University. She has also achieved qualifications at both Diploma and Licentiate levels in Guitar Performance through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

In the course of her studies Ilona has performed in masterclasses given by world famous guitarists, including David Russell, Maximo Diego Pujol, and John Mills.

Ilona performs regularly at events throughout Scotland, playing solo guitar music for functions such as weddings and parties. She plays a variety of styles from classical and Spanish to traditional Scottish music.

In addition, Ilona plays guitar for the Edinburgh based all-girl rock band Laid Back Ruby. The band plays a selection of classic rock covers as well as original songs.

Ilona teaches guitar in schools across Edinburgh, both at primary and secondary level. She also teaches privately to children from age 8, as well as adults.
